Seyi Law tells Tinubu to “let the poor breathe” by stopping “punishment on Nigerians”

Standup comic Seyi Law (real name Oluwaseyitan Aletile) – who publicly campaigned for Bola Tinubu in the last election cycle and announced he voted for him – has told the President of having gone over the top by adding a new 0.5 per cent cybersecurity tax to the burden on the poor masses.
Seyi Law bared his mind on X (Twitter), the platform on which another citizen lamented the government is simply taxing Nigerians to get funds for its officials to steal.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) disclosed the new levy on Monday and directed banks to begin deducting it from electronic transfers two weeks from May 6.
Seyi Law described the policy as “unacceptable”, urged the CBN to revisit it, and insisted Tinubu allow the masses “breathe”.
“I hate when government agencies don’t speak up to the understanding of the citizens and allow wrong narratives to fester before tackling it. Cybersecurity level, according to the act, is 0.005%, and different figures from 0.5% to 3% are being thrown around,” Seyi Law posted on his X handle and tagged Tinubu.
“A 0.5% charge in the Nigeria of today is in itself too much punishment on Nigerians. Are we trying to discourage banking transactions again and encourage cash keeping? @cenbank should revisit this abeg.
“Stamp duty is something, and now this. It is unacceptable. @NGRPresident @officialABAT, let the poor breathe. When will the new minimum wage be announced and implemented?
“Some of your ministers need to look for another job. One year is here and we are counting.”
