With the relaunch of SERVICOM as repackaged by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the quality, speed and timeliness of project delivery in Delta State will be enhanced, Funkekeme Solomon, Senior Policy Adviser to the Governor has said.

He said the virtues of transparency, accountability and timeliness embedded in the repackaged SERVICOM has paved the way for projects to be executed and delivered as planned.

Solomon who spoke while fielding questions as a guest on Delta Today, a current affairs programme on Bridge FM in Asaba, said Oborevwori saw in the rebirth of SERVICOM a platform for driving his MORE Agenda.

“The idea is that all Commissioners and heads of agencies should ensure that policies and resource proposals presented for approval to the State Executive Council are based on evidence of the needs of the population. They will demonstrate the viability of all projects and show evidence of the involvement of stakeholders in the development of policy and feedback of performance” Solomon said.

Under the new framework for policy formulation and execution, he said the incidence of abandonment of projects, poor execution or delay in delivery will almost be eliminated.

“The Governor inherited some projects and has restarted some others, but his game plan is that when all stakeholders, including civil society and policy makers sign up to any project and collectively monitor its execution, contractors as well as all involved will sit up and do the right thing”, the Senior Policy Adviser stated.

On the accomplishments of Oborevwori’s first year in office, he said apart from already having a number of infrastructural projects to flaunt, a solid foundation has been laid for greater achievements to be recorded in the coming years.

According to him, the relaunch of SERVICOM has seen many organisations and agencies sign up to its tenets. “The SERVICOM team under my watch has visited over 70 MDAs including three of the state universities. There is a new attitude to and perception of service delivery. University administrators and lecturers now see SERVICOM not as mere civil service slogan but a holistic package that will make government work for the people. Anything associated with denying students their due or demanding gratification of any hue runs against the spirit of SERVICOM and good conscience.

“On its part, the government will provide the requite tools for public servants to carry out their duties. I’m convinced that Deltans are on the path to greater things under this governor. His MORE Agenda is a guiding principle that is all encompassing. All he needs is the unflinching support of the people”, he said.

When the SERVICOM campaign resumes, Solomon said the tertiary health institutions will be visited alongside continuation of the tour of the local government areas in the state.
