Senators have confirmed a Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) Director and National Population Commission (NPC) and Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Commissioners nominated by Muhammadu Buhari.
The Senate did the confirmations on Tuesday, the day the President left town for Brussels where he plans to spend five days in yet another talk shop while leaving at home undone his real job to effectively lead government on several fronts.
Emily Osuji was confirmed as NDIC Executive Director after consideration of the report presented by Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions Committee Chairman Uba Sani (APC, Kaduna Central).
“The office of the Executive Director (Corporate Services) of the Corporation remains vacant following the end of the tenure of the previous occupant,” Sani explained.
He said Osuji’s nomination complies with Section 8 of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation Act and she “possesses the academic qualifications, technical knowledge and professional experience to be Executive Director of the NDIC.”
The Committee did not receive any petition against her nomination and she was “cleared by the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services (DSS) and possesses the Code of Conduct Acknowledgement slip,” Sani added.
