The Senate on Wednesday ratified Solomon Arase as Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).
The ratification of the former Inspector General of Police followed the consideration of a report by the Senate Committee on Police Affairs.
Chairman of the Committee, Senator Jika Halliru (APC-Bauchi), presented the report.
Halliru said Arase’s nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari was in accordance with section 154, sub-section 1 of the 1999 Constitution.
According to him, sections two A and B of the Police Service Commission Establishment Act 2001, also required the President to nominate Nigerians of proven integrity as members of PSC.

He said findings from the screening by the committee showed that Arase meets the necessary legal requirements and is affirmed by the committee to be appointed as Chairman of PSC.
Halliru said the committee was satisfied and impressed with the way the nominee answered all questions posed to him.
Halliru said that given the qualifications and relevant experience that Arase gained over the years, the committee recommends that the Senate confirm his appointment as Chairman of PSC.
Sen. Ajayi Borofice (APC-Ondo), who made glowing remarks on the robust academic profile and career of the nominee, described Arase’s nomination as a “round peg in a round whole”.
He said his eventual appointment would benefit the PSC as he has served in various capacities in the Nigerian police.
