Segun Awolowo steps down as NEPC’s boss

Segun Awolowo, ED, and CEO of NEPC ended his tenure yesterday, Ezra Yakusak, Director Policy and Strategy of the organization takes over

Olusegun Awolowo, grandson of former Nigerian nationalist and statesman, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, yesterday ended his second and final term as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC).

He handed over to Dr. Ezra Yakusak, Director Policy and Strategy of the Council, who resumed as the organization’s new CEO today.

According to Daily Trust, since 2016, Awolowo’s flagship project has been the Zero Oil Plan, as an economic blueprint for Nigeria to boost non-oil exports, among several others.

Segun Awolowo considers his biggest achievement to be “energizing the critical sectors of the economy to increase non-oil production and increase productivity to take advantage of the market out there for Nigerian exports globally.”

His successor Ezra Yakusak, who holds a Ph.D. in industrial regulation from the Ahmadu Bello College, has, in addition to being Director Policy and Strategy at NEPC, served as Secretary to the Governing Board of the Council.

President Muhammadu Buhari on October 12 this year,  announced Dr. Ezra Yakusak as the new CEO of the NEPC and his tenure starts 27th November 2021.

Segun Awolowo was born on the 27th of September 1963 to the late Segun Awolowo, he attended Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University), Ago Iwoye, and graduated with an LLB degree.

He was appointed the executive director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) by President Goodluck Jonathan in 2013 and his tenure expired in November 2017.

The 58-year-old was reappointed as ED and CEO of NEPC  by President Muhammadu Buhari in February 2018 for another four-year tenure, which ended yesterday.
