Security beefed up in Keffi, new emir to be chosen today

-

Security has been beefed up in Keffi, Keffi local government area, ahead of Sunday’s selection of new emir following the death of HRH Mohammadu Chindo Yamusa II in order to prevent any unholy action that may scuttle the process.

Mohammadu Chindo Yamusa II died on Decenber 4, after a brief illness drawing the curtain on his 37 years’ reign on the throne of his ancestors.

His demise has since sparked off interest from several ruling houses from Keffi, with not less than seven persons who had initially indicated their interest to ascend the throne.

Five among the contenders have since dropped their ambition including one of the late emir’s son, Hon. Yamusa Chindo for his elder brother, Alhaji Shehu, a lecturer at Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

Ahead of today’s selection which is vested in seven kingmakers, the contest is as a straight fight between Dr. Shehu Yamusa and Alhaji Usman Galadima, who also is a cousin to the late emir and a former chairman, local government service commission in the state.

Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa State had earlier advised the stakeholders and the members of the emirate to be fair and ensure peace before, during and after the selection, pointing out that he has no favourite candidate but will cooperate with the judgement of the kingmakers on whoever they elect.
