SDP rallies support for Kogi governor

The Kogi State c‎hapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has passed a vote of confidence on the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for his performance in the two months since his assumption of office.

The party’s state Chairman, Indah Abdulrahman, stated this in Lokoja during a visit to the governor.

The SDP chairman, who was sighted with other executive of his party, said that there had never been an accidental leader, adding that every leader had been prepared by God to lead. He said that what happened in the state governorship election was enough to remind people that God rules the affairs of men.

“God is on a mission in Kogi State and let us not close our eyes and pretend that we didn’t see it,” Abdulrahman said.

‎He commended the governor for handling the serious infrastructural challenges which had been competing for attention.

“You can see that work is going on the drainages and some major roads in the state, which were abandoned by the previous administration after their poor outing in the polls,” de explained.

The SDP chairman said that his party has decided to support the governor because of the level of achievements he has recorded within a very short period, which have surpassed his predecessor’s record for same period he was in the office.

Meanwhile, former political office holders in Kogi State, who made away with vehicles belonging to the state government have been advised to return them or face the wrath of the law.

The refusal of the former political office holders ‎involved in this act to return the vehicles despite several appeals made to them has led to the constitution of the Vehicles Recovery Committee by the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello.

It would be recalled that the political office holders that served under the immediate past administration of former Governor Idris Wada had catered away several vehicles from the government’s fleet a day before the inauguration of the present administration on the January 27, 2016. The committee, which was inaugurated on Monday, April 11, 2016, was mandated to go after the vehicles and recover same to accelerate the smooth running of the current government and its programmes.

The committee comprises of a representative of the Kogi State Ministry of Justice, security agencies and Transportation Officers in the Government House and the Head of Service.

Chairman ‎of the committee, Adaidu Akoh, who is also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, addressed journalists in Lokoja. He said that the committee has so far recovered seven vehicles from the former appointees.

He urged others to thread the path of honour by willingly returning the vehicles in their possession to the committee to avoid embarrassment from the security agencies. He also commended the members of the committee for working around the clock to ensure the completion of the assignment within the stipulated time.

The Committee was given two weeks to conclude the assignment.
