The Nigerian outfit of the Global human rights watchdog, Amnesty International Nigeria, has called for the scrapping of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) by promoting the hashtag, #EndSARS.
In a tweet, Amnesty International Nigeria said it has carried out research of the claims about SARS brutality of Nigerians and found them to be true.
The body said among the findings its team of researchers have uncovered about SARS was a systematic arrest of Nigerians, torture of their victims to elicit confessions for crimes they know nothing about, and asking them to pay bribes.
“Our research on SARS uncovered a pattern of ruthless human rights violations where victims are arrested and tortured until they either make a ‘confession’ or pay officers a bribe to be released. #EndSarsProtests,” the body said.
