Saraki admits Labour Party is strong but says PDP optimistic elsewhere

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has acknowledged the Labour Party (LP), of which Peter Obi is the presidential candidate, is the biggest challenge to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in winning the South East.
“The South South is a strong PDP area. We will do very well in the South South. [In the] South East, the challenge we have there, of course, is Labour [Party],” he disclosed on Arise TV.
“But we will still do well in the South East and take our 25 per cent. We will do well in the North Central, we will do well in the North West and the North East.”
Saraki enthused the PDP will win four political zones, per reporting by Vanguard.
“We need four zones. By the time you have four zones, you will win the election.
“The four zones that we will win are the North West, North East, South South and North Central, and we will take our 25 per cent in more than 24 states. There is no doubt about that.”
But former PDP National Vice Chairman (South West) Bode George and former National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh both have warned the PDP may lose the election because of its rift with the G5 Governors, also called the Integrity Group.

Metuh admits PDP rift hinders Atiku, favours Obi, Tinubu
Metuh insisted leadership chaos in the PDP may narrow the 2023 race to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP), and cause the PDP and Atiku Abubakar to lose out.
He warned APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu and Obi would be the beneficiaries if the PDP fails “to sit down together and resolve our differences before the situation completely gets out of hand.
“The crisis, if it persists, may narrow the 2023 presidential election to a two-horse race between Bola Tinubu and Peter Obi.”
Metuh counselled the restoration of peace in the PDP before the vote next month.
“The fate of the PDP in the 2023 election has been made precarious by Obi’s presence in the race.
“Whether or not we admit it, Obi’s LP will take a considerable size of PDP votes in all the states in the South East.”
“Obi has also penetrated states in the South South, including Rivers, where Governor (Nyesom) Wike holds sway and there is nothing anybody can do about that.”
