Sanwo-Olu was reacting to Nigeria’s qualification for the AFCON finals after beating South Africa in the semi-final via penalty shootout
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has lauded the Super Eagles crew, especially goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, head coach, Jose Peseiro, captain, William Troost-Ekong and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen after advancing into the finals of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) at the expense of South Africa on Wednesday night.
TheNiche had earlier reported that Nigeria qualified for the AFCON finals after beating the Bafana Bafana in the semi-final via penalty shootout.

The match in Bouake had ended in a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes, following a remarkable end to normal time which involved the referee going to his video monitor to disallow a Victor Osimhen strike which would have put Nigeria 2-0 up – and instead awarding a penalty to South Africa.
Reacting to Super Eagles’ hard fought victory over the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, Sanwo-Olu, in a post via his X account tweeted: “We did it!!!!
“So proud of our Super Eagles for finding that extra tenacity to push through. From Nwabali with the in-match and penalty heroics to Ekong to Osimhen for taking initiative to help us score in the match and to the silent hero, Coach, José Peseiro, everyone dug deep to give us this one.
“Off to the finals and by God’s grace the Cup. For now, we’re playing @asakemusik’s Amapiano for the rest of the week.”
Nigeria after the win over South Africa, will now face hosts, Cote d’Ivoire, who edged past DR Congo in the other semi-final clash in the AFCON final on Sunday.
