Sanwo-Olu approves 20% pay rise for civil servants

Sanwo-Olu made the announcement a few days after his victory at the March 18 gubernatorial and House of Assembly polls

A few days after his victory at the March 18 gubernatorial polls, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a 20 per cent increase in the salaries of civil servants in the public service.

This was disclosed in a statement signed and made available on Monday by the Lagos State Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, where he said the new structure takes effect from January 1, 2023.

Others to benefit from the increment by Sanwo-Olu include those in local government areas, local council development areas and the State Universal Basic Education Board.

The statement read, “Furthermore, kindly note that the arrears for month of January 2023 will be paid along with salaries for the month of March, while the arrears for the month of February 2023 will be paid together with the month of April 2023.

“This action further demonstrates the administration’s commitment to staff welfare. Public servants are enjoined to show more commitment and dedication in the delivery of quality service to the citizens of the state.

“Accordingly, all accounting officers are to note the content of this circular and give it the service-wide publicity it deserves.”

Also confirming the development via his social media handle, Gbenga Akosile, spokesperson to Sanwo-Olu tweeted: “mainstream public service, local government areas & local council dev. areas as well as SUBEB” and the execution would be backdated to January 1, 2023. 

“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, today, approves a 20 percent increase in the salaries of civil servants in the mainstream public service, Local Government Areas & Local Council Dev Areas as well as SUBEB,”
