Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has expressed happiness over the emergence of former Central Bank Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, as the new Emir of Kano, saying that his reign will bring unprecedented development to the ancient city.
The governor stated this in a statement issued in Ibadan on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Festus Adedayo.
He described the new Emir as a seasoned technocrat, accomplished administrator and an Islamic scholar who will bring his wealth of experience from the corporate world and sound Islamic knowledge to bear in the running of the emirate.
Governor Ajimobi commended the Kano State Governor, Mallam Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso, for acceding to the request of the Kano kingmakers on the choice of Mallam Sanusi as the new Emir.
He, however, condemned the violence that attended the announcement of Sanusi as the new Emir, urging a section of the youth who were behind the violence to sheath their sword and give peace a chance.
The governor also called on security agencies to handle the situation with high sense of professionalism so as to prevent a total breakdown of law and order in the Kano metropolis.
He also described the late Emir, Alhaji Ado Bayero as an apostle of peace who left his indelible footprints on the sands of time.
Governor Ajimobi, who acknowledged the immense contributions of the paramount ruler to the socio-political development of Kano State and indeed, the entire country, prayed for the repose of his soul.
