Nigerian singer and pioneer of ‘Waka music’, Salawa Abeni, has refuted rumours that she recently passed away, saying spreading such falsehood is “shameful”
The 64-year-old debunked the death rumours in a recent video she shared on her Instagram page.
While singing in the video, Salawa declared that anyone wishing her dead shall die before her.

She also appreciated her fans and loved ones for showing concern, while urging the general public to disregard the rumours.
Captioning the video, Salawa Abeni wrote “I’m alive, hail, and hearty. Please disregard the rumours. Some blogs will do the unthinkable just to trend. It is rather shameful. The Queen is fine and doing very well”.
The veteran singer is not the first Nigerian musician or celebrity to dismiss false reports about their deaths this year.
Her colleague, Ebenezer Obey, and Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu, recently denied similar claims.
