Sadio Mane set to miss Qatar 2022 World Cup

Sadio Mane was substituted in the 20th minute of Bayern’s match against Werder Bremen at the Allianz Arena due to an injury he picked up

Former Liverpool striker, Sadio Mane is at risk of missing out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after suffering an injury on Tuesday during the match against Werder Bremen. the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Senegal now face a tough choice just 11 days before the World Cup after Sadio Mane was substituted in the 20th minute of the Bundesliga match due to the injury.    

The Terenga Lion’s World Cup campaign is scheduled to kick off in 13 days against The Netherlands at the Al Thumama Stadium, but they may now be without their talisman.

His absence would be a huge blow for coach Aliou Cisse, who would be forced to modify a list of players he had practically finalized before traveling to Qatar.

November 14 is the deadline for the 32 national teams to send their call-ups to FIFA.

So far, neither Bayern nor the Senegalese national team have made Mane’s injury or his withdrawal from the World Cup official.

“He received a blow to the top of the shin. This is an uncomfortable place. It needs to be X-rayed to clarify,” were the words of coach Julian Nagelsmann at the post-match press conference.

Mane’s injury is said to be related to his tendon and is expected to keep him out for several weeks, according to French media outlet L’Equipe,

Meanwhile, his coach, who was a former Senegalese international, is reportedly expected to announce his squad for the Qatar tournament on Friday, November 11. 

The Teranga Lions, who are one of Africa’s five representatives, are in Group A alongside hosts Qatar, Ecuador and Netherlands.
