Senegal and Al Nassr winger, Sadio Mane, has justified his decision to turn down a move to Manchester United and joined their English Premier League (EPL) rivals, Liverpool, in 2016.
He gave the reason for his action while featuring as a guest on the latest episode of Rio Ferdinand Presents.
Mane was attracting a lot of interest while at Southampton and eventually signed for the Reds in a £30 million deal.
Speaking on the show, the Senegalese explained that he wasn’t convinced by Louis van Gaal’s guarantee of game time at United.
“Manchester United called me that time,” Mane said.

He added, “I was talking to Van Gaal that time. [Wayne] Rooney was there. And [Angel] Di María was there. And [Memphis] Depay was there.
“When they failed to get me, they bought [Anthony] Martial.”
Mane went on to make 269 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 120 goals for the Merseyside outfit in the process.
However, in 2022, the 32-year-old left Anfield to join Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich.
