Former Nigeria’s Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has said that the Super Eagles will do well at the 2021 African Cup of Nations following his ability to build a formidable team ahead of the competition in Cameroon.
The Franco-German coach was axed on Sunday by the Nigeria Football Federation following the unimpressive performance of the team.
While talking to AFP about his sacking, Rohr refused to argue but expect the team to play well in the upcoming 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

“It’s a huge frustration, but I don’t want to argue; it’s not my style. (I’m) convinced that they will have a very good CAN because the team is in place, and this very united group is ready for the challenges that await it.
“I’m going to have a hard time doing without these great players and this very united staff, but the environment is not always favourable; we cannot control everything,” he told AFP.
Rohr spent five years as the coach of the team and was able to attend two major tournaments.
TheNiche had reported that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) sacked Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr, and appointed Augustine Eguavoen, in his stead as the interim coach.
Gernot Rohr’s sack was with immediate effect, the German was in charge of the Super Eagles for 64 months, making him the longest-serving coach of the team.
NFF Executive Committee also decided that Eguavoen will be assisted by Salisu Yusuf (Chief Coach); Paul Aigbogun (Assistant Coach); Joseph Yobo (Assistant Coach); Dr Terry Eguaoje (Assistant Coach) and Aloysius Agu (Goalkeeper Trainer).
According to Completesports.com, two super eagles Legends, Nwakwo KanuAugustine ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, and Garba Lawal were also appointed to provide technical and ambassadorial support for the crew.
