Men suspected to be armed robbers on Tuesday, June 6 attacked three banks in succession in Iwo, Osun State, killing three policemen, and a civilian and carting away huge sums of money believed to be running into millions of naira.
An old generation bank, Firstbank, and two new generation banks; Sterling bank and Skye bank were victims of the invasion, according to TheNiche findings.
Sources said the banks which were successfully robbed are located close to Bowen University in Iwo.
TheNiche learnt that the robbers came in large number and that their operation was clinical and highly coordinated. They were said to have first killed the driver of an armoured tank stationed around the area as a way of demobilising the armoured tank itself.
Following the operation, the ancient Iwo town was thrown into turmoil, with the killing of the cops, and a civilian. Oke-Odo in the heart of the town was said to be thrown into confusion as gunshots boomed ceaselessly.
At press time, none of the banks could speak on the incident, but the police said they are on the trail of the suspects.
