Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has flagged off the construction of Umuihechi-Omuoko-Omokiri roads in Aluu town of Ikwerre Local Government Area.

Performing the flag off on Tuesday, Wike charged the contractors to deliver the roads by May 2018, assuring that the project would be duly funded.

He stated that Rivers people must always demand performance from their leaders, because  it is their right to reap the dividends of democracy.

The governor stated that  in 2017, his administration  delivered the Mbodo road, while it renamed Port Harcourt Polytechnic as Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic in honour of the late international author.

He said: “I am here to thank the people of Aluu for supporting me through their votes during the last elections.

“And my way of thanking you people is to site projects that will improve the living standard of the people. I will never abandon any project “.

Wike also advised the people of the area to register, and vote for PDP  during the forthcoming general election.

His words: “Your only weapon to elect the leaders that will enhance development is the permanent voter card.”

Rivers State former Governor, Sir Celestine Omehia, assured that Ikwerre people would repay Governor Wike for his commitment to the development of the area through their votes.

“We owe the governor our support and vote during the 2019 General Elections.  He has proved to be a worthy Ikwerre son”, he said.

Rivers State Works Commissioner, Dum Dekor, said that roads are 6.1 kilometre long with 12 kilometre drainage.

He pointed out that the road project would offer direct and indirect jobs for members of the community.
