Rivers crisis: Tinubu, call your minister to order, Ugochinyere warns
By Ishaya Ibrahim
The member representing Ideato Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Ikenga Ugochinyere, has called on President Bola Tinubu to caution a serving minister in his government because his supporters were allegedly the ones burning local government secretariats in Rivers State.
The Ikwerre and Eleme local government secretariats were on Monday set ablaze by unknown arsonists less than 48 hours after a contentious local government election in Rivers State was held.
The election saw the Action Peoples Party (APP) winning 22 out of 23 local government chairmanship seats.
In a statement on his X handle, Ugochinyere alleged that the arsonists were supporters of a serving minister in the cabinet of President Tinubu.
He said the President must rein in that minister for the return of peace in Rivers State.
The statement reads; “Supporters of a serving minister in Tinubu’s govt are alleged to be busy burning the headquarters of another arm of govt and the police since morning have not stopped them. Mr. President, do you know what this means?
“Nigeria has worked paths like this before and the consequences were enormous. Stop the madness these overnight supporters are carrying out. Rivers People and Nigerians are recording all these for you.
“Elected LGA Chairmen have been sworn in and there is nothing these alleged Wike group can do that will change this or remove the democratically elected govt of Gov. Fubara from Office.”
