The Nigeria Police Force said that it has launched an investigation into the incident which occurred on Monday at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex.
The assembly was razed in an early morning fire before 24 out of 32 members of the assembly signed a document to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
They served impeachment notice on Fubara after impeaching and suspending House Leader, Edison Ehie, who is on the governor’s side.
The decisions were taken at an emergency sitting by the lawmakers on Monday morning.
The unusual sitting took place between 7am and 9am.
Although newsmen were barred from the sitting, TheNiche gathered that all the 24 members who signed the impeachment notice were present.

However, the action had already been concluded as the lawmakers left the Assembly complex through the second gate before Fubara and his people were allowed access to the complex.
Eight lawmakers on the side of Fubara later elected Ehie as speaker.
Videos which went viral showed a police van spraying water at Fubara and other state officials.
Reacting to the incident at Rivers assembly, the NPF said in a statement shared on social media: “We’re aware of the security situation at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex. The Rivers State Police Command is actively addressing the matter. We’ve launched a comprehensive investigation to uncover the circumstances and will take immediate actions against those responsible. Stay tuned for further updates. Your safety remains our priority.”
