The South American had to play a patient game to break down an organised Serbia rearguard but Richarlison lit up the game with a moment of Brazilian magic.

The ‘Seleção Canarinho’ opened the scoring in the 62nd minute when Tottenham striker, Richarlison turned home a close-range finish after Vanja Milinkovic-Savic saved Vinicius Junior’s effort.

Richarlison doubled his side’s advantage 11 minutes later, after controlling a pass from Vinicius and brilliantly firing home an acrobatic right-foot to make it 2-0 to Brazil.

It was no more than Brazil deserved after dominating the game, with Alex Sandro and Casemiro hitting the woodwork and Milinkovic-Savic also saving superbly from Fred.

Brazil’s performance made ominous viewing for their rivals, as did the sight of Gabriel Jesus, Antony and Gabriel Martinelli coming off the bench in a powerful show of squad strength.

However, there was a worrying moment when Brazilian star, Neymar, was taken off after taking a knock.

Serbia next play fellow European, Switzerland on Monday, while Brazil, will face one of Africa’s representatives, Cameroon on the same day.
