Restructuring: How FG fuels regional agitations –Tabai

-

RETIRED Judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Francis Tabai, has said the raging agitations for disintegration of Nigeria would not have been gaining prominence if successive governments honestly implement extant constitutional provisions spelt out to address the vexed issues.

In a goodwill birthday message in honour of Niger Delta activist, Chief Mike Loyibo, in Warri, Delta state, Justice Tabai, stated that, “The constitution contains provisions accommodating various national issues presently agitating ethnic nationalities but the problem is in implementation as leaders at the centre neglect the relevant provisions to do things at their prerogatives. “Federal character, for instance, is a constitutional provision clearly spelt out to address equitable political appointments and siting of federal institutions in the country, but it has been jettisoned by successive governments who prefer doing whatever pleases them in power.

“These are some of the vexed issues and until we have leaders ready and willing to implement the constitutional provisions to the letter, there might not be an end to the growing agitations across the six geo political zones in the country. The birthday celebrant on the occasion, Chief Loyibo, also blamed the problem with the nation on leadership without political will in addressing the imbalance in distribution of wealth and appointments, supporting the call for restructuring to achieve equity, justice and fairness among the federating units.
