Registration opens for Silver Label Okpekpe Road race

-

Registration for the sixth edition of the Okpekpe international 10 km road race, the first ever IAAF Silver Label race in Nigeria, nay West Africa, is on and intending runners can register either digitally or manually.
Spokesman for the race, Dare Esan said interested runners can for quick and easy registration download the tracking application launched for the race last year or visit the website www.okpekperoadrace.com to register.
“We are delighted to announce that intending runners at the sixth edition of the race can also use our tracking application to register for the race,” said Esan.
“Runners can also register through our website www.okpekperoadrace.com. Registration will not however be limited to online platforms as we intend to use the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) to help distribute the registration forms when the time comes. The online platform is mainly for those who are far from the registration points that will be announced in due course.”
Esan however allayed fears that those that will register manually, especially the ‘local’ elite athletes that will come through the AFN cannot use the Okpekpe road race tracking app.
‘All registered runners and their loved ones can download and make use of the app to either track their performance or print their certificate of participation at the end of the race.”
Esan also revealed that those who will run in this year’s race will go down in history as the first set of Nigerians to run in an IAAF Silver Label race.
‘This year’s race will be historic as it will be the first time a silver label race will be organised in Nigeria and West Africa. We are confident a lot of Nigerians from all the nooks and crannies of this country will want to be a part of history,’he said.
The Okpekpe international 10km road race is one of two road races in Nigeria certified by the IAAF and the only one recognised by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).
The race holds on Saturday May 12, 2018 in Okpekpe, Etsako East local Government Area of Edo State and it is organised by Pamodzi Sports Marketing, leaders in sports marketing and hospitality business in Nigeria.
