Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu, has caused a stir on social media after revealing that she became Minister of Humanitarian Affairs because of a prayer Bishop David Oyedepo said.
Betta Edu, while giving testimony at the ongoing Shiloh programme of the church on Friday morning, said she approached Bishop Oyedepo at the Canaan Land, Ota, Ogun State international headquarters in 2022 to pray for her in her desire to be a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
At the time, the presidential election was two months away.
She said: “Praise the Lord, Praise the lord! My name is Dr. Betta Edu, I came to thank God last year at Shiloh 2022. I prayed and told God that by the next time I come to next year Shiloh, I want to be a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“On the last day of Shiloh, just as I was walking out I saw Papa, Bishop David Oyedepo, and I went to greet him as usual, and I whispered to him, Papa I need you to pray for me. I just have one prayer request. And he said what is it? I said I want to come back to Shiloh in 2023 as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he put his hands on my head and said it is done.”
Edu’s remark has generated diverse reactions from Nigerians.
@WahabAkinbayi said: “So, the same Bishop Oyedepo, who did not support Tinubu’s presidential ambition prayed for Betta Edu to become a minister. Under whose government did he expect his prayers to manifest? Edu earned the appointment, no doubt, Oyedepo’s spiritual proclamation could have worked too. But, how do you see your church member becoming a minister under a party you ‘campaigned’ against? If Oyedepo truly saw Betta Edu becoming a minister 7 months before her appointment, he must have also seen Tinubu as Buhari’s successor. Could all these be spiritual errors?”
@VivaDido said: “I don’t understand this Oyedepo prayed for you to become a Minister in the government he doesn’t support right from Day 1?”
@samomatseye said: “Minister Betta Edu mounted the podium Friday morning at Shiloh to testify and thank God for making her minister. She said, last year, she asked Bishop David Oyedepo to pray for her to be minister and the man of God obliged and laid hand on her. So, in spite of the Obidient rave, the Bishop was probably neutral. By laying hands on Edu, he might have anointed the victory of her principal. If he had malice with Tinubu, would he have granted her wish? Those at pains with the cleric may have misjudged the prophet?”
@DanielRegha said: “So according to The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Oyedepo prayed for her to become a minister; Really? Same woman that said “GPS will be used in distributing palliatives” to Nigerians, but till date people are yet to acknowledge receiving the palliatives. All Glory to God indeed.”
