Ramadan: Bauchi first lady distributes food items to women, OVC

The first lady of Bauchi State, Hajia Hadiza Mohammed Abubakar, has distributed food items to women and vulnerable children in the state as parts of her effort to alleviate their suffering at the ongoing Ramadan season.

The first lady also urged muslim women to use the ramadan month to pray for perpetual peace in the country.

Distributing the food items in Bada-Romo village in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state on Saturday, Hajia Abubakar urged women to use the month of Ramadan to pray for peace in the country.

The First Lady told them that the APC government in the state was concerned on the plights of women and children.

She added that the distribution of the food items was to cushion the effect of poverty among the beneficiaries throughout the holy month.

Among the food items distributed are bags of millet, rice, sugar including wrappers and vegetable oil. Hajia Abubkar said that the distribution exercise would continue as all women and children across the state would benefit.

Besides, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Women Affairs, Mr Ishayaku Ardo Siri, had said that the government attached importance to religious institution, which informed the decision to provide the food items.

According to him, about 122 Tafsir Centres are targeted to get the food items across the state. He urged those responsible for the onward distribution of the food items to ensure justice and fairness to the beneficiaries.

“The food items worth millions and it is expected that they will go a long way in cushioning the effect of fasting on women and children not only in Bada-Romo but the state as a whole,” said he.
