The 27-year-old attacking midfielder made the assertion while speaking to La Gazzetta Dello Sport recently, saying he was lucky to have avoided moving to Old Trafford.

Rabiot was on the verge of moving to Manchester United in the summer after the Red Devils agreed a fee with his parent club, Juventus.

But the player’s representatives, which included his mother, were demanding eye-watering wages from the Premier League (PL) giant.

The Red Devils eventually pull out of the deal to sign the Juventus midfielder who has now said he was happy he didn’t join them, despite acknowledging that PL is the most popular league in the world.

Rabiot said, “It’s true, there were contacts with Premier League clubs, but in the end, I was lucky to stay, perhaps it was the best decision.

‘The Premier League is the most followed league, but I don’t think about the future. I am focused on the World Cup. The club and I are in no hurry, there’s serenity, so we can consider all options.”
