Professor loses passport and other travel documents while on bail

John Ifeanyichukwu, a professor, has been ordered to submit his passport and other travel documents to an Abuja High Court for allegedly bribing Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) officials with a $40,000 cheque.
The Presidency reported him to the ICPC for alleged corruption, extortion, and money laundering.
He was charged to the Federal Capital Territory High Court, after which he offered bribery and inducement to ICPC officials, according to the charge sheet.
“The cheque was part of the $50,000 and a house in Abuja that was promised to the officer to compromise investigation by retrieving the accused person’s devices, MacBook S/N CIML8BUGDTY3, MacBook S/N W80204J7ATN and an iPhone 11pro, which were in the custody of the ICPC for investigation,” the ICPC explained in statement.

Continuation of bail contingent upon submitting travel documents
The ICPC told the court in Charge No: CR/025/2022 of how Ifeanyichukwu induced one of its operatives to smuggle out an iPhone and a laptop and replace them with dummies that were to be provided by his personal assistant.
“The accused person’s action is contrary to Section 18 (b) and punishable under Section 18 (d) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000,” the ICPC said, per reporting by The PUNCH.
Ifeanyichukwu pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him in court.
Judge Angela Otaluka granted him bail in the sum of N10 million and two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court and one of them must have a landed property in Abuja.
The case was adjourned until 21 June for commencement of hearing.
Otaluka ordered Ifeanyichukwu to submit his passport and other valid travel documents before the next adjourned date otherwise his bail will be revoked.
