Pro-Biafra: Release my son – Eze Kanu, 85, appeals to FG

-

The traditional ruler of Afara Ukwu ancient kingdom in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, HRM Eze Israel Okwu Kanu has appealed to the Federal Government to release his son, Nnadi Kanu, detained for his involvement in pro-Biafra activities.

He said the continued detention of his son has worsened his health challenges because of thinking and loss of appetite for food.

Eze Kanu, who made the appeal during a media chat with journalists in Umuahia, said he was shocked that his son who came home to see him was ambushed, arrested and detained in Abuja for so long a time without release.

The Royal father who was flanked by his family members during the media chat, said: “I call on the federal government to release my son Nnamdi Kanu. He did not do anything that could cause the trauma he is facing now. This is democracy where everybody is allowed to express his personal opinion.

“Even though I am not involved in the fight for the emancipation of Biafra, the group has remained peaceful and non-violent in their struggle.

“I cannot fight with the federal government. But all I am saying is that they should for my sake as an old man of 85 years, release my son for me,” Eze Kanu said in tears.

Eze Kanu advised Nigerians demonstrating for the continued detention of his son not to turn violent. “Be peaceful and use dialogue to achieve his release”.

Lending her voice, the mother of Nnamdi Kanu, Ugoeze Nnenna Kanu called on the government to release her son on compassionate ground.

“As a mother, I am worried for the continued detention of my son by the DSS because of his involvement in the alleged Radio Biafra.
