Princess Madojiemu’s U-15 Schools Athletics Championships Begins in Benin

The much advertised Princess Mabel Madojiemu School Athletics Championships billed for Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium starts today in Benin.

The Championships meant for U15, is open only for secondary schools in Edo State and would start with the all-round screening of Athletes. The Championship made its debut in 2019, but due to the Covid’19 worldwide epidemic, the second edition was kept on hold.


Over 500 School kids would be participating in the 2-day athletics event which would draw the attention of Athletics admires outside Edo State to the Stadium.
Winner in 13 events on display namely 100/200m, 400m, 4×100/4×400m etc. would go home with prizes with Cash prizes, big exercise notebooks, T-shirts and special prizes for the best athletes of the Championship boys and girls.


“We are back to contribute our efforts to athletics development, ” said Princess Mabel Madojiemu, former national 400m runner.

“The outcome of the last edition was very encouraging, but the worldwide health emergency in 2020 and 2021 prevented us from following up. But now we are ready to continue from where we stopped.” She is being joined by Austin Poland Oritse in giving financial muscle to the championships and according to Princess Madojiemu, all are to ensure a successful athletics event in Benin.


The championships have been approved by the Edo State government which had also supported the Championship with tangible, technical logistics such as an electronic timer for accurate data bank even as athletes have adequately prepared for the event.
