Prince Ali dismisses speculation he may withdraw FIFA boss bid

-

Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein will continue to run for the FIFA presidency, the Jordanian said in a statement issued late on Monday, dismissing speculation he may withdraw his candidacy for the top job at the ruling football body.

“I will continue the race until the end,’’ Prince Ali said in reference to the May 29 election at the FIFA congress in Zurich.

The statement came in response to speculation in social media platforms that the Jordanian Prince Ali may withdraw in order to back a single candidate to run against Joseph Blatter who is seeking a fifth term as FIFA boss.

Dutch football federation president Michael van Praag and former Portugal star Luis Figo are the other two men challenging Blatter.

Prince Ali said in the statement he got a lot of positive feedback during recent visits to various countries.

Blatter appears to have gathered support from many confederations and is the favourite for the secret ballot at the congress. The Swiss’ main critics are the European governing body UEFA.
