Prince Abubakar Audu, Kogi APC governorship candidate, to be buried Monday

-

The late Prince Abubakar Audu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Saturday’s inconclusive governorship election in Kogi State, will be buried tomorrow, Monday, according to Islamic rites.

Audu, the first executive governor of the state, who was poised to win the governorship election after a rescheduled supplementary election later, was said to have died from stroke Sunday afternoon, according to a family source.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to announce the new date for the rescheduled supplementary election in 59 polling units in 18 local governments across the state whose results were cancelled on Saturday for various electoral irregularities.

The family source said Audu will be buried tomorrow morning.

Another informed source said the APC candidate complained about stomach cramps the previous evening, suddenly fell ill again and died on Sunday when he was being rushed to Abuja to be flown abroad for treatment.

His political associates, family members, friends and well-wishers and other sympathisers have converged in both his hometown, Ogbonicha, in Ofu Local Government Area of the state and at his GRA residence in Lokoja, the state capital. In both places, mourners weep profusely.
