The Premier League has explained why Leeds United’s controversial second goal against Chelsea—which helped the visitors secure a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge—was allowed to stand.
In a concise statement published on Tuesday night on the organisation’s official X page, the league insisted that the goal was legitimate.
Chelsea took a two-goal lead in the dramatic encounter, thanks to goals from João Pedro and Cole Palmer.

However, Leeds pulled one back through a penalty from Lukas Nmecha, before Noah Okafor levelled from close range with 17 minutes remaining.
Despite protests regarding a Jayden Bogle handball in the build-up to the visitors’ equaliser, the match officials did not overturn the goal.
Reacting to the decision in a statement, the Premier League wrote: “The referee’s call of goal to Leeds United was checked and confirmed by VAR—with there deemed to be no handball offence by Bogle in the build-up.”
