Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President, Dangote Group has pledged to construct a 500 megawatt (MW) power plant for Kano, Katsina, Jigawa and Kaduna states.
Engineer Mansur Ahmad, Executive Director, Stakeholders Management, who represented Aliko Dangote at the 36th Kano Trade Fair in Kano, said in his address at the occasion that the power plant is a deliberate attempt to support the local economy for wealth creation.
Engr. Mansur maintained that without power, industries and commerce will cripple and businesses will tremendously decline and that has been the situation in Kano for decades, so, anything to be done to revive such would have to be done now than at any other time.
The Director revealed that they were currently discussing with the Kano State government about the 500MW power supply and final agreement will be signed in few weeks’ to come.
According to him, Dangote has been providing support in areas of health and education in Kano, adding that in the next few weeks, they are going to hand over six of the completed healthcare facilities to Kano government.
Ahmad said Dangote has constructed over 100 boreholes across the state and the theater health facility at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, MMSH, which was delayed due to design discrepancies, would soon take off.
In his words, Dangote group has done quite a lot of interventions across the Federation, citing the example of Ebola case where Dangote group expended over N1 billion to control its spread and another N1 billion support to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in especially the Northeast.
Mansur also disclosed that the nutrition programme of Dangote is aimed at ensuring nutritious meals for pupils who will be vibrant, intelligent and for better Nigerian community.
