Porto suffer major injury blow, lose Taremi ahead of Arsenal clash

FC Porto could be without Mehdi Taremi when they play Arsenal in the Rounds of 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Gunners travel to the Estadio do Dragao for the first leg of the clash after winning Group B, while Porto finished runners-up to Barcelona in Group H.

Speaking ahead of the match, the Portuguese club revealed that Taremi is struggling with an injury to the abductor in his right thigh.

The 31-year-old has scored 86 goals in 172 appearances in all competitions since he joined from Rio Ave.

However, he has found goals hard to come by this season, with only three in the Primeira Liga and three more in other competitions.

The Iran international played in Porto’s last two fixtures and will hope to face the Gunners, but the club has said he suffered the muscle injury in training on Sunday and is undergoing treatment.

The club also confirmed that Goncalo Ribeiro, Marcano and Zaidu are also dealing with injuries, but there is no word on whether or not any of the trio will be available to feature against the Gunners.
