Port Regulator: Shippers’ Council, DSS to synergise on service delivery

The South West Zone, Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) and the Oyo State Command, Department of State Services (DSS) have agreed to work closer to enhance service delivery to stakeholders and customers in the zone and country in general.

Nigerian Shippers Council Director in charge of the South West Zone and National Coordinator, Presidential Port Standing Task Team (PSTT), Mr Moses Fadipe who led the NSC team in a courtesy visit to DSS, Ibadan, Oyo State Command disclosed that the visit was aimed at creating a harmonious working relationship with relevant Federal Government Agencies in the South West geo–political zone to ensure efficient and effective collaboration and service delivery.

Fadipe disclosed that the Federal Government in an attempt to introduce sanity at the port and erase all corruption indexes and remove the trajectory of issues that always takes place at the nation’s port, the Nigerian Port Process Manual (NPPM) was introduced.

He also informed the DSS State Director that the Federal Government formed the Port Standing Task Team, a committee which included the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Department of State Service, Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigerian Shippers’ Council to monitor and enforce implementation of the NPPM.

He noted that the Federal Government, in its wisdom, appointed the Nigerian Shippers Council, the Port Economic Regulator, as the lead agency in the PSTT.

The Director (SWZ)/Coordinator of PSTT informed the gathering that since the inception of the task team, none of his personnel has been found wanting in any fraudulent activities and since there are massive national economic infrastructure going on at the hinterland, he felt that his first point of call is to pay homage to the Department of State Service, Ibadan.

Speaking, the State Director, DSS, Mr. John Margima thanked the Director (SWZ)/ National Coordinator PSTT for his decision to visit his office. He stated that his office doors are open to the Director (SWZ)/National Coordinator for any assistance.

Margima further said that Nigerian Shippers’ Council will enjoy working with the Department of State Service as they are available in Oyo State, being their centre of coordination, and the Council will not have any problem with them. He added that the Service’s door remains open for consultation at any time.
