Police take over APC headquarters as party crisis escalates

Amidst rumours that some aggrieved party members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were out to launch protest at its national headquarters, Police are currently baricading the entire street where the headquarters is located in Abuja.

At the moment, there are many armed policemen in four patrol vans strategically positioned themselves within the secretariat along Blantyre streey at Wuse 2, without harassing passersby and the motorists using the street.

Some Bauchi APC members had, on November 5, stormed the national headquarters to seek the intervention of the national caretaker committee in the crisis rocking the party in the state.

Speaking with journalists on the presence of security operatives, John Akpanudoedehe, national secretary of the APC caretaker committee, said it’s a measure to safeguard the premises.

“They have been there several times whenever we need to safeguard the secretariat,” he said.

“You are not in the position to read security reports. So, you cannot ask me. If something happens now, they will say ‘what were they doing?’

“There are so many things that have to do with security that you are not aware of. It’s a routine thing. The police liaise with the FCT minister, the IGP and other people if they have any information.

Although the presence of the police awakened reminisce of the dark days of the former National Chairman APC National Working Committee (NWC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, however the difference is that they were not subjected to any undue harassment by the security operatives.

One of the security details attached to the party secretariat, told newsmen that the Police acted on security report that certain persons have been mobilised to stage demonstration at the party secretariat.

According to him, “You don’t expect the party’s national leadership to fold their hands in the face of such threatening security report. They don’t want to take chances or watch the situation degenerate to the days of Oshiomhole when activities in the party was grounded
