Bauchi Commissioner of Police Auwal Muhammad deployed detectives from C Division Police Headquarters to investigate the murder, according to a statement issued by state Police Command spokesperson Ahmed Wakili.

Wakili said investigation led to the arrest of Fatima who confessed to killing Hajara before attempting to cover up the crime during interrogation.

Fatima reportedly poured boiling water on the victim and set her body on fire using a melted Bagco sack to destroy evidence. The motive for the murder is yet unknown.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) which has assigned a team of detectives to carry out a detailed investigation that may include exhuming Hajara’s body forensic tests.

Muhammad assured the public that justice will be served as the police will deploy all necessary resources for a comprehensive and professional investigation.
