Police say ammunition shell, not bullet hit Azeez Ijaduade as Ogun CP visits actor

Azeez Ijaduade’ shooting was also condemned by the Ogun Police boss during the visit

Police have clarified that it was an ammunition shell that hit Nollywood actor and movie director, Azeez Ololade Ijaduade in the neck and not a bullet.

TheNiche had earlier reported that the thespian’s colleague, Abiodun Adebanjo, with the handle @iamabiodunadebanjo, confirmed the incident on his Instagram page.

Narrating the ordeal, he wrote: “Please, we need help in Iperu. My director, Azeez Ijaduade, @kingzeez1, was shot by a Nigeria Police personnel.

“He is presently at Babcock University Teaching Hospital. Anybody with the contacts of the Police IG or Commissioner should reach out.”

After the news made the rounds, Nigerians took to social media to slam men of the Ogun State Police Command for their unacceptable and unprofessional conduct.

Reacting to the development through a statement, the spokesperson of the state command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, explaining that a bullet shell hit the actor in the neck.

“During the Bramaj Company end-of-year party in a hotel, a mobile policeman attached to the Chinese expatriate expended a shot into the air, and unfortunately, the ammunition shell hit one Azeez Ijaduade “m “ an actor, on the neck,” Odutola said.

She went on to say that the actor who features more in Yoruba movies is in a stable condition.

“He was rushed to hospital in Ilishan and he is in a very stable condition,” she also said.

Odutola further added that the officer had been arrested, and an investigation commenced into the incident.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Abiodun Alamutu, has condemned the shooting.

The police boss’s criticism came during his visit to the actor at Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Iperu Ikenne Local Government Area of the state on Sunday.

Alamutu said: “It was actually an unfortunate incident, but from all indications, I have seen the victim, it was not a direct hit. Actually, some people were trying to mob the principal the policeman was attached with, in a bit to scare them off, he had to fire some shots. It was unfortunate the victim was within that axis. It was the shell that hit the victim.”
