The gate of the Lagos State Magistrate Court in Yaba, the venue for the arraignment of #EndSARS promoter, Eromosele Adene, was sealed up with a heavy lock, barring lawyers and journalists access to the court premises, November 17.

Adene was to be arraigned at the court 4 of the Magistrate Court yesterday, November 16, but the matter was adjourned for today.

At the hearing today, journalists, lawyers and friends of Adene met a big lock at the gate upon arrival, including the activist lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, who was at the court to defend Eromosele.

The gate was later opened after Effiong persistently protested the decision to lock the gate.

Eromosele was arrested on November 7 at his home for presumably planning a protest.

When the police arrived his home on on November 7, he tweeted the incident saying his sister and mum were being harassed. Since that day, he had remained in the custody of the Nigerian Police for days without charge.

He was first transported to Abuja and returned to Lagos before he was finally arraigned in a Magistrate Court, ten days after his arrest.

The Nigerian law allows a maximum of 48 hours for an accuse to appear before a judge. The Nigerian police observe that provision of the law in the breach.
