Personnel of the Nigerian Police Force in Abuja have fired tear gas at some #EndSARS protesters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This came as Nigerians took to the streets for the third day to demand the immediate dissolution of the controversial and alledged corrupt police Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
Our correspondent gathered that the protesters were marching to police headquarters when they were ambushed by a large contingent of armed officers. Some protesters were injured in the chaos while a few others were arrested.
In Lagos, the protest continued with young Nigerians occupying the Lagos State House of Assembly Complex.
On Friday morning, the youths assembled and chanted solidarity songs. Others continued with ‘END SARS!’ ‘END SARS!’ chants.
Brandishing placards with various inscriptions, the youths decried harassment encountered in the hands of SARS operatives, lamenting the rate at which many young boys and girls are being battered and killed by trigger-happy police officers. “No to police harassment, no to brutality”, one placard read. The other simply stated, “We are not criminals, we are citizens”.
