Police eject Gov Obaseki from INEC office during collation of Edo Guber results

Police officers led by DIG Frank Mbah and some soldiers entered INEC office and escorted Obaseki out of the premises by 4:10 am

The incumbent governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki was forced to vacate the premises of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the collation of the results of Saturday’s Governorship election in the state.

He was ejected after a protest from the members of the major opposition party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor had entered the premises unannounced at around 2 am allegedly to protest some anomalies in the collation of results of some local government areas, including his local government, Oredo.

After Obaseki was sighted, officials of INEC approached him and told him that he was not supposed to be there, but he insisted on staying.

At about 3 am, a combined team of police officers led by DIG Frank Mbah and soldiers entered the premises and by 4:10 am, he was escorted out of the premises by the security men who shouted at the governor, “Leave, leave.”

Minutes before Obaseki was led outside by Mbah flanked by a contingent of policemen, APC National Secretary, Surajudeen Basiru, had insisted that the governor had no business in INEC’s  premises.

Basiru while addressed journalists said, “He is not a candidate. He has no reason to be here”, describing the governor’s action as an abuse of office.”
