A 22-year old Togolese cook, Sunday Adefonou who allegedly murdered his boss Opeyemi Badamosi ,Chairman of Credit Switch Technology was on Monday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court, Lagos Nigeria on one count charge of murder.
After his arraignment Chief Magistrate Mrs O.O Oshin, ordered that he be remanded in prison, pending the legal advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The suspect was alleged to have committed the offence of murder, on October 31, 2018, at the deceased’s residence at 3b, Onikoyi Lane, Parkview Estate Ikoyi Lagos.
It was stated in the charge that Anani, in order to rob his boss, stabbed him (boss) to death with a kitchen knife.
According to the charge the offence allegedly committed by the accused is contrary to Section 222 and punishable under Section 223 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
During the arraignment, the police prosecutor Mr J.I Eboseremene told the court that he had an application to remand the accused in prison custody under Sections 115 and 264 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2015.
” We pray the court that the accused be remanded in prison custody, on the first instance of 30 days,” Eboseremene stated.
In his reply, Mr Jamiu Alapo, counsel to the accused did not however object to the remand of the accused but told the court that the accused does not understand English Language, but understands Pigin English.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate (Mrs) O.O Oshin, held that there was nothing to reply on the remand application.
She said “In view of the remand application of murder, the defendant is remanded in prison custody in the first instance, of 30 days under Sections 115 and 264 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2015, pending the legal advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).”
The case was adjourned till December 18, to await for DPP’s advice.
However after the court sitting Anani, who was handcuffed was weeping while his counsel was speaking with him.
