Police disclose how 15-year-old bride and her ex-lover poisoned groom at wedding ceremony

Police disclose how 15-year-old bride and her ex-lover, names suspects

Police have provided more details of the running copy of a bride aged 15 who allegedly conspired with her former lover to serve poisoned food at her wedding to a man aged 29, which led to the death of a guest and critical illness of the groom.

Eyewitnesses alleged the bride took the action driven by personal vendetta.

The incident two weeks ago in Jahun Council of Jigawa took a spun a new turn following the arrest of the bride and her ex-lover by police who have now named both suspects.

Preliminary police findings show that the bride, Zahra’u Dauda, 15, and her former lover, Lawan Musa, 22, allegedly conspired to poison the food of the groom, Kamisu Haruna, 29.

Jigawa Police Command Public Relations Officer Shi’isu Adam narrated in a statement at the weekend that, “The groom, Kamisu Haruna, 29, and two of his friends ate the food together, resulting in stomachaches. One of the friends was confirmed dead at the hospital.

“We have arrested the bride and her ex-lover in connection with the alleged food poisoning incident.

“One Zahra’u Dauda, ‘f’, age 15 years, of Bagata Gabas village conspired with her ex-lover, one Lawan Musa, ‘m’, age 22 years, also of Bagata Gabas Yamma village, all in Kiyawa LGA, to poison her husband’s food, one Kamisu Haruna, ‘m’, age 29 years of Albasu village, Jahun LGA.

“The husband and his two friends ate the food together, and as a result, they both developed stomachaches.

“The victims were rushed to the hospital, where one of the groom’s friends was confirmed dead by the medical doctor on call. The case is under investigation.

“We will do everything within our power to ensure that justice is served.

“The incident occurred two weeks ago, and the police have been investigating the matter since then. The bride and her ex-lover are currently in police custody and being interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department of the command.

Adam urged the public to remain calm because “We are working to unravel the facts, and we will provide more details as soon as possible.”

He confirmed that all the wedding guests who consumed the poisoned food have been discharged from hospital, except the friend of the groom who died.

The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed by the police but they have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
