Mohammed said N784,000 was recovered from officers found guilty of extortion of citizens, with the money returned to the victims.

Among the disciplinary actions taken, one constable was dismissed, four officers had their ranks reduced, six received written warnings, and four were reprimanded.

Mohammed commended the role of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) which operates in the Police Public Relations Department, saying it is instrumental in handling public complaints of misconduct by officers.

He said the CRU received 10 complaints in 2024, all of which were investigated, and reaffirmed the dedication of the command to enforcing discipline and ensuring accountability to foster public trust and enhance service delivery.

“A total of eighteen personnel have undergone internal disciplinary measures, demonstrating our dedication to maintaining high operational standards.

Cop disarmed, locked up for allegedly killing lady in accidental discharge

Last week in Ekiti, a police officer was disarmed and locked up by his superiors for allegedly killing a lady identified as IfeOluwa Adekalu with bullets from accidental discharge from his gun.

The tragic incident occurred at the Okela Police Station in Ado Ekiti.

The police officer was on a visit to the station and reportedly fired gun shots in jubilation when he received news of the promotion of a colleague. Some bullets hit and killed IfeOluwa.

There was, however, confusion over the exact location of the shooting of the victim said to be a mother of one.

One source disclosed she was hit in front of a salon opposite the police station while returning from where she went to pay her accommodation rent.

Another source said the incident occurred when the woman came to the police station to see her husband who was in detention.

IfeOluwa was rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to the injuries from the gunshots.

Ekiti Police Commissioner Adewale Adeniran, an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), confirmed the incident and said the officer was disarmed and detained, and would face interrogation in line with the Nigerian Police Act.
