The Nigerian Police Force has urged electorates in Edo State to return home after casting their votes, insisting only individuals accredited to monitor the poll will be allowed on the streets during Saturday’s governorship election.

This was disclosed on Friday by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of security for the election, Frank Mbah, during an interview on Channels Television.

According to him, despite the decision of security agencies to listen to the citizens’ complaints and adjust curfew period, there would still be restriction on vehicular movements from 6am to 6pm in the state.

The DIG went on to say the election being an off-cycle poll will attract sympathisers of political parties from other states to Edo State.

He further noted that  it is the responsibility of the police to provide security to everyone, including journalists, observers, and politicians, who are in the state for the election.

Speaking during the chat, Mbah said, “It is important for everybody to know that if you are not accredited to carry out the functions relating to the election, you shouldn’t be out on the streets.”
