Police confirm three Indians among victims of Ijebu Ode kidnap

Police also said the Anti-kidnapping Unit of Ogun State Police Command is working assiduously to rescue the victims

The Ogun State police command has confirmed that three Indian nationals were among those kidnapped along Sagamu-Ijebu Ode expressway recently.

TheNiche had earlier reported that some travellers were abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers along the expressway on Sunday.

It was gathered that an unknown driver in a grey Toyota Rav 4, AGL16JE Lagos, was trailed to a bad portion of the road, and the abducted travellers were taken in an unregistered Venza Jeep.

According to reports, one of the victims, a resident of Ilisan Remo was shot in the knee but managed to escape.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Ilisan Development Council, Otunba Wemmy Osude said the victim was already receiving medical attention at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital.

He said: “Information reaching me right now confirmed a kidnapping incident between the Area Command and Ilisan City Gate (formerly Delabo).

“A resident of Ilisan (name unconfirmed) was reportedly shot in the knee and is receiving medical attention at Babcock Teaching Hospital. He is in stable condition.

“Other victims were taken into the bush. While waiting for additional information, please contact your loved ones who may be plying that road at about this time to be cautious”

However, while giving an update on the incident on Tuesday, the PPRO in the state, Omolola Odutola, disclosed that three Indian nationals were the victims of the incident.

Speaking while briefing the press, she said “investigations by the anti-kidnapping Unit of Ogun State Police Command further reveals that three Indian nationals were the victims of a kidnap incident that occurred at Delabo Junction.”

Odutola went on to say the Anti-kidnapping Unit of Ogun State Police Command is working assiduously to rescue the victims.
