Police confirm rescue of one of six worshippers abducted in Ondo church

Police also noted that operatives have arrested a suspect believed to have aided the gunmen in committing the atrocity.

Ondo State Police Command has confirmed that one of the six worshippers kidnapped at the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Uso, Owo LGA of Ondo State, has regained freedom.

This was disclosed in a statement released on Wednesday by the spokesperson of the command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.

According to him, the incident took place in the early hours of 25 February at approximately 12:50 am, during a church service.

He further stated that the victims were reportedly taken to an unknown destination by the attackers.

The statement added: “Upon receiving the report, operatives of the command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, immediately mobilised to the scene and commenced coordinated rescue operations.

“As a result of sustained joint efforts, one of the kidnapped victims has been successfully rescued.”

Jimoh also noted that operatives have arrested one person believed to have aided the gunmen in committing the atrocity.

“One suspected informant linked to the incident has been arrested and is currently assisting with ongoing investigations.

“Security operations are ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and the apprehension of all perpetrators involved,” the statement added.

The latest abduction comes just four days after gunmen kidnapped a couple at Ilu-Abo, in Akure North LGA of Ondo State.

Additionally, a traditional ruler, Oba Kehinde Falodun, the Alagamo of Agamo in Akure North Local Government Area, was recently killed by bandits who invaded his palace.
