The Taraba Police Command has confirmed 15 persons dead in Sunday’s communal clashes in Wukari and Ibi towns.
ASP Joseph Kwaji, the command’s Public Relations Officer, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Jalingo.
He said that 11 persons were killed in Ibi while four others lost their lives in Wukari.
Kwaji said that many people were injured and several houses burnt in the crises which started in Wukari and spilled over to Ibi.
He said that normalcy had returned to the affected areas following the deployment of security personnel led by the AIG Zone 3, Mohammed Abubakar and the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mrs Kalafite Adeyemi.
The police spokesman, however, debunked the rumour that 50 people died in Wukari, adding that the police only recovered four bodies in the area.
He warned the people to desist from spreading rumour capable of exaggerating the casualty figures, adding that anyone caught would face the wrath of the law.
Kwaji urged the resident of the affected areas to imbibe the spirit of tolerance and forgiveness for peace and sustainable development of the state.
