Juventus midfielder and France international, Paul Pogba, has said he cannot wait to see his compatriot and former Manchester City defender, Benjamin Mendy play football again after he got a not-guilty verdict on rape charges levelled against him.

Mendy on Friday, July 14, was cleared of all rape charges by the Chester Crown Court, United Kingdom.

The embattled footballer, whose contract with Manchester City expired this month, was cleared at the earlier trial of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, relating to four young women.

But jurors failed to reach verdicts on two counts of rape and attempted rape, prompting a re-trial.

However, Mendy was found not guilty of the charges, as the jury ruled that all the acts the ex-Monaco man was accused of were consensual.

The former Manchester United star went on to say he is looking forward to his return to the pitch.

Pogba wrote: “Al Hamdullilah. So happy for you bro. All the people who were talking bad about you. Now I wanna see them clean your name. Can’t wait to see [you] on the pitch again.”

Also speaking about the development is Dutch striker, Memphis Depay, who asked several questions he would love to get answers to after the verdict.

Taking to his Twitter handle, he wrote: ” All cases dismissed. So what are we doing now? Who is going to help this brother heal? Who’s going to be Responsible for the damage to his name? How is he going to have his career back? Many years of investment to become a professional football player…. Now…”
