Chelsea boss, Mauricio Pochettino has reacted to his team’s 2-0 loss at Everton on Sunday, saying he needs to bring in reinforcement in the January transfer window to truly compete.

The defeat ensured the Toffees, who had 10 points deducted from their Premier League (PL) tally for financial disciplinary reasons stay above relegation zone but left the Blues 12th on the table.

Chelsea with the loss have now suffered their seventh defeat in 16 PL matches this season and they are now 18 points adrift of Liverpool at the top of the league.

Meanwhile, the London club spent over £1 billion in the last three transfer windows, but many of those preceded Pochettino’s summer arrival.

Speaking with MOTD after the match, the Argentine tactician suggested he wants his own players to help kick-start his Stamford Bridge rejuvenation.

He noted that his team dominated the encounter but were not clinical in front of goal, adding that there is a need to address the gaps in the team in January.

Pochettino said: “Football is about scoring goals and we were not clinical in front of goal. I’m really, really disappointed. We didn’t get the point we deserved.

“I think we were better but we didn’t get what we wanted.

“This was a game to play and to win. It’s a problem we need to check. We need to analyse reality. We need to talk and to try to improve in the next transfer market.

“We are dealing with this. After five months, or the first half of the season, we need to check and that’s the reality. If we are not aggressive enough (on the pitch) maybe we need to do something.”
